Billing Customer Assignments (Multi-company Management only)
"Billing Customer assignments" is a setting in Admin > Billing > User Accounts and Admin > Billing > User Groups that restricts users in a Multi-company Management environment from accessing specific child companies.
If this setting is configured in User Groups, and a user is assigned that group in their User Account, the settings in the User Group is applied to the User Account:
No assigned role: If the user does not have an assigned Billing role or a customized role in User Groups, then you can pick-and-chose any child company from the "Billing Customer assignments" list in their User Account.
An assigned role: If a child company is selected for a role in User Groups, when that role is assigned to a user in User Accounts, that user automatically get access to the child companies defined by that role. You can add a child company, but you cannot delete one configured for that role.
Company Administrator account types: There are a couple of things to note about Company Administrators. They will:
-
Have access to all child companies (they will all be checked). You cannot uncheck a child company in the "Billing Customer assignments" list.
-
Be able to manage payers and facilities (create/edit/delete/copy) at the parent company level. Company Administrators are the only account types that can perform these types of actions regardless of permissions given to specific roles. This reduces the chances of duplicates in the system.
So, how does this work?
Barney works for West EMS Transport which is the parent company for four child companies. Barney is a Standard User with a Biller role. Looking at User Groups > Biller, we see the settings for "Billing Customer assignments" has only two children selected.
When the Biller role was applied to Barney's user account, he was given permission to access two child companies so the companies listed in the context switcher looks like this:
Barney cannot create payers or facilities at the parent level and copy them down to the selected child companies. He does not have permission to create payers or facilities at the parent level. He can access both companies and perform his duties as a Biller in each.
Barney's supervisor is Betty. Betty has an account type of Company Administrator. When Betty clicks the context switcher, she sees the following children:
As a Company Administrator, Betty has the capability to manage payers and facilities (create/edit/delete/copy) from the parent level.
